Judge Roy Bean - Law West of the PecosSometime in 1835 Roy Bean was born His actual birthday is open to conjecture. We do know he died in March. Judge Bean was the self proclaimed "Law West of the Pecos" - his courtroom was a bar. These worksheets and coloring pages also goes along with our Texas Unit Study. Phantly Roy Bean, the "Hangin' Judge", (c. 1825 – March 16, 1903) was an eccentric U.S. saloon-keeper and self-appointed judge who called himself "The Law West of the Pecos". According to legend, Judge Roy Bean held court in his saloon along the Rio Grande River in a desolate stretch of the Chihuahuan Desert of west Texas.
