Enjoying Learning Over the Holidays

The holidays can be a time to relax and to put the regular school books away. But it can also be a time to enjoy some fun out-of-the-box type learning as well. It’s not too late to do a study of Christmas. I am just starting a lapbook on that with my 8 yr old as before Christmas was too busy. And now we have Christmas cards and other fun things to use in the lapbook.

This is also a great time to do a mini unit on things like penguins or snow. How about a study on icicle? Eskimos or igloos? And forget the traditiona text book learning – actually BUILD an igloo, make snowflakes and carve an ice scupture.

Learning doesn’t need to be boring and as home schoolers we have a great many homeschooling resources that most people wouldn’t even consider. So take advantage of that and enjoy some great learning time over the holidays.

  1. hi again Belinda,
It’s always interesting reading about winter holidays. In New Zealand we are experiencing our hottest part of summer, so it’s beaches and barbecues for us at this time of year.
